Grabouw is the commercial centre for the largest single export fruit producing area in Southern Africa. The town was created in 1856, and soon gave rise to a local tradition of well-stocked trading stores, fine country restaurants and generous hospitality.
Grabouw is surrounded by the Elgin Valley, internationally famous for its abundance of apple orchards. In fact, 65% of South Africa’s apples are harvested here. The area is a popular destination for hiking and off-road mountain biking, while the annual Elgin Festival draws thousands of visitors to its rich offering of local flowers, fruit, wines and delicacies. These products are also available throughout the year at local farm stalls, which are easily spotted along the N2 highway that runs through Elgin Valley and past Grabouw Lodge.
With its apple trees, roses, pines and pastures, the Eglin Valley is a fertile region where one is never bored, and always relaxed.
